Li Mingwei, full-time deputy director of the volunteer department of the Universiades, recalled that the recruitment of the first batch of key volunteers for the Universiades began in May 2019. By selecting the best of the best, 3,000 people were recruited in the first year. In April 2021, the Universiade was announced to be postponed, which did little to dampened the enthusiasm of the youth. At the Universiade test event held this year, more than 7,000 volunteers worked with full enthusiasm.

In September 2021, the recruitment of volunteers for the Universify resumed, and universities in Chengdu were boiling again. By early 2022, 15,000 people had been recruited. In May 2022, the Universiades were postponed again, and the recruitment of volunteers restarted in September. By February this year, 20,000 college students had been recruited.

Major competition venues, University-Games village, main media center, opening and closing ceremony site, technical official residence, airport station, reception hotel...... College student volunteers can be seen everywhere, and they have a common name - "small green pepper". The Chinese pronunciation of "green pepper" is the same as "Qingjiao", that is, youth interaction, implying that the Chengdu Universiading is a grand meeting of the world's youth exchanges.
